LECTURES
“The Art of Doing It All”
My lecture is a trunk show of my work from one of the first quilts I ever made and extending all the way to my latest work. I show how each piece is made up of things I learned from before, but also contains NEW ideas that I’ve learned from great teachers, as well as innovations I think up as I work. My goal is to inspire my audience with new ideas and give them the confidence to “go their own ways”, as well. I do guarantee we will be laughing throughout this lecture. We will have fun!
($400 )
"You Are Too an Artist !"
In this combination talk and trunk show, the audience will be teased into remembering that once they were ALL artists... a long time ago when they were young! This is an important concept for people to understand, especially now! Because I was a long-time, successful high school art teacher, this is a subject that is very close to my heart.
The audience will even do some drawing as the lecture reminds them about the FUN they had making art when they were in kindergarten. Where did that joy go? This talk will open the doors of the lost creativity we all were born with! It's great fun and useful information from an artist who hasn't lost her "inner child"!!!!

1. THE ART OF LANDSCAPES
This class is for those who truly LOVE the land and its trees and water and sky. There are no patterns because Nature
is not as simple as a pattern. She LOVES variations and imperfection! In this class students will learn my own "Rough Cut"
technique to chew out tree trunks and leaves and grassy hills. We'll learn aerial perspective and 4 principles of composition
that will make your landscapes sing. When you leave, you'll be able to create an landscape that you can dream up, I promise.
But be sure to bring a "crummy" paper scissors to class!!! ($450 for a one-day class. Maximum students = 30) |

2. AN ARTFUL VASE OF FLOWERS
Because in this class you will use NO PATTERNS, there are two especially fun things that you will learn. You'll add to your
repertoire 1) a fun, easy scrap background that you can use for many different kinds of quilts, and 2) the freedom to cut natural
elements for your work WITHOUT having to use patterns. As an extra incentive, in this class you'll use up oodles of those scraps
that you've been saving for who-knows-what! No two students' work will be alike. That's the art of it!
($450 for a one-day class. Maximum students = 30)
* At the end of this class, students will be taught the easiest way ever to turn their piece into a pillow WITH NO SEWING ON BUTTONS OR MAKING A PLACKET!!!

3. The Scavenger Hunt ART Quilt
This class is truly a unique art experience! Students will receive a list of 5 things that
they must FIND, not buy. That makes this quilt economical, and truly one-of-a-kind. Wait 'til you see the list! Besides the found objects, students will bring fabric that they LOVE and glue and fusing material, but they can do some sewing as well. Students will learn the MOST IMPORTANT principles of art in this one-day class, and leave this class seeing new possibilities in the over-looked items all around us. It's the ultimate recycling class!

4. PILLOWS, MY WAY!
What could be more fun or more forgiving than creating a friendly hippo floating among the water lilies and butterflies? There are no patterns in this class because we will learn how to freely cut the flora and the fauna. However, a special aspect of this class is how to use, really USE, fabric to save time and create illusions that catch the eye. This is a happy piece, and I promise you'll have fun and you'll also find the freedom to use your own sense of humor in your work!

5. BIRDS OF A FEATHER I watched a nature show on TV the other day, and they showed a bird that had never been seen before. Well, I think there
are many undiscovered birds... in our heads! Birds are the most fun to create, feather by feather, with funny shapes and
funny faces, made from scraps of fun fabric. Our birds will sit on their own nests made from ribbon and straggles of yarn, too. This is a class for students who like to laugh and have fun. Yes, a sewing machine will be handy, but a sense of humor will be a necessity! |

6. Who Are YOU? - A Self-Portrait
This is me... who are YOU? In this class you MUST have a sense of humor and some cloth you LOVE!
By the way, it is NOT a headband on my forehead... it is my eyebrows if I forget to pluck! Can you tell
I was an art teacher and an English teacher? Why no nose? There's a story in that, too! In this class
you will sift through YOUR life and pick out ONLY what you want to show the world - both who you are and
who you'd like to be! It's a fun way to start to an art quilt. After all, you're bringing your own live
model with you!
